Job Description: SR INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER

Seeking an experienced senior industrial designer that will participate in developing design ideas from basic concepts to fully working design solutions, following the development of design through to production and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will: gain an understanding of life sciences instrumentation, contribute to brainstorm sessions, create concept sketches and 2D and 3D renderings, assist with presentations as necessary, manage supplier/vendor relationships, research global design trends and other competitive product research work and create mechanical and technical specifications for manufacturing as necessary.

High-energy designers who can: generate excitement through all phases of product design from concept to shipped product. The Industrial Designer will work as part of the brand strategy team to develop design concepts as well as be able to work on projects independently and to collaborate as part of a greater team effort. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in industrial design in addition to 15 + years of experience, have the requisite software knowledge/capability, and have a portfolio that reveals advanced understanding and mastery of industrial design thinking and implementation.

Skills & Experience

· Minimum of a Bachelor's in Industrial / Product Design, or similar degree

· 15+ years professional experience

· Packaging and Ad Graphics experience/sensibility a plus

· Hands-on technical experience directly developing consumer products

· Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and modeling skills

· Advanced skill level with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

· Excellent sketching and photorealistic rendering skills

· Working knowledge of manufacturing and materials processes

· Solid client management and team leadership skills

· Extensive experience with rapid prototyping design processes

· Strong visual communication & presentation skills

· Excellent verbal, written and visual communication

· Deep portfolio of successful products across multiple categories

· Proven innovator in design for simplification and differentiation

· Ability to create successful design languages across complex organizational and geographical boundaries

· Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing processes involving plastic, metal, electrical and electronic and packaging components

· Demonstrated success in project management skills, scope creation, cost analysis, and expertise in defining manufacturing techniques and new materials

Essential Duties

· Manage and design archetype and strategic projects, ensuring ID projects are aligned with brand strategy

· Manages and evolves ID standards: form, material, finish, color, branding etc.

· Manage tactical and strategic vendors in the scope definitions and execution of ID design projects

· ID standards governance and approval processes including training

· Conceptualize, develop, initiate and implement innovative products to meet business goals and customer needs

· Create sketch and finished renderings to develop designs

· Develop product ideas from concept to production design, development and coordination with manufacturing and engineering teams

· Global design strategy maintaining brand continuity across key product lines for instruments and devices

· Procure, test and verify new and existing manufacturing techniques to implement design elements on product

· Coordinates with manufacturing (local & overseas) to ensure final product meets design specifications, including CRO documentation processes

· Coordinates QA plan for pre- and post-launch quality assurance

· Contribute to market research and staying ahead of trends

· Collaboration with operations on key activities such as cost reduction via common design elements and sourcing of common parts

· Customer facing: design-centric customer visits and studies and programs

· Coordinates with manufacturing to assure regulatory compliance

· Travels to global sites to maintain and evolve design strategy as needed

· Create, build and procure design assets for all design activities as directed

· Ensure design standards against internal and external regulatory standards

· Participate in new vendor reviews, CDA creation and standards training

· Collaboration in planning and management of ID project pipeline with Project management and brand management

· Coordinate with engineering project management to maintain ID standards throughout the product creation process
